We are on the brink of the 48th edition of the Copa America, the premier national football tournament involving teams from North and South America, and the 2024 finals mark an historic occasion.

While most of the attention will be on the football being played, the Copa America 2024 opening ceremony is also expected to draw a lot of eyeballs.

The first match of the tournament will feature the defending champions, as Argentina will take on Canada to kick off the competition.

This is because it's been jointly organized by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and the North, Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation (CONCACAF) for only the second time in its history.

All 10 CONMEBOL members will feature in the tournament, with six teams from the CONCACAF region, making it a 16-team competition.

The tournament kicks off with the opening game, which will see reigning world champions Argentina taking on Canada, at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The opening ceremony will take place prior to the match.

Feid is a Colombian musician, composer, and producer, known for popularizing terms from the Paisa culture like ‘MOR’ and creating a unique sonic and visual identity within the urban genre. His way of speaking, singing, and even dressing resonates with his fans worldwide. Although he mainly works in reggaeton, he blends his voice with influences ranging from EDM, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Rhythm and Blues, to Afrobeat, among many other genres.

Currently, Feid ranks among the most listened-to artists globally, with global hits like ‘Luna’ alongside producer ATL Jacob. ‘Luna,’ certified four times platinum by the RIAA, has amassed over 1.6 billion streams worldwide and reached #1 on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart. This year, Feid has headlined major festivals across Latin America, and his Ferxxoapocalipsis Tour 2024 has been well-received in major cities across the United States and Canada.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, the renowned home of the NFL's Falcons and MLS' Atlanta United, will host the event and the opening game.

With a seating capacity of 71,000 (expandable to 75,000), the stadium has hosted prestigious American sporting events such as Super Bowl LIII and the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2018. The stadium is well known for its unique retractable roof system.

Grand opening ceremonies, with cultural programmes and performances from prominent singers and artists, have been a prominent feature of Copa America tournaments from the past and much of the same is expected of this year's event in the United States.

Excitement is building for the Copa America 2024 opening ceremony on June 20. Two days earlier, CONMEBOL announced that multi-Grammy-award-winning artist Feid would be the opening performer at the event.

The Colombian, who has received rave reviews for his Ferxxoapocalipsis Tour of the U.S. and Canada this year, was teased as the star act of the show when CONMBEOL posted an image of social media of a soccer ball and a pair of glasses adorned with double crosses — a signature look of the Reggaeton performer.

The CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ will be played in the United States and includes ten teams from CONMEBOL and six invited teams from Concacaf. In this edition, this traditional tournament will be organized by both confederations.

The 6 Concacaf teams qualified through the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League. The representatives from North, Central America, and the Caribbean are the United States, Panama, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica.

In the 48th edition of one of the continent's most important competitions, this will be the second time in the tournament's history that it will host 16 teams, having featured the same number of teams in its 2016 edition, also held in the United States.

National teams that have won ten combined FIFA World Cup™ titles and the world's greatest football stars will take the field to play 32 matches in this edition of the tournament in June and July 2024.
